**NOTICE! ** NOTICE! ** NOTICE! ** blah blah.. Upon completion of the California State Pharmacy Boards (ie: after July 1st) I shall: 1. Work with charity and eris to help rip out all of the english out of the webpages, in preperation of the code upgrade.. 2. Install latest CVS LJ code onto our test server along with a copy of the database, and test, test, test. Then I shall test again!! 3. Upon working well, I might have to take DJ down for a few days to upgrade the code and the DB (all 10 gigs of it).. This might take a while, and i'm not 100% sure whats going to happen... Hence step #2.. 4. Once the site is back up using new code (and I dont have to skip work to study, and have a real job) i'll judge buying a new DB server or a new webslave.. The new code is supposed to contain tons of speedups so we'll have to see.. 5. Play it by ear.. I might have to turn on invite codes just to help curb the monsterous growth that we have been getting.. The reason for me not staying up with the code: The old pre-cluster code required charity and I do retype all of the dynamic content ("welcome to dj, blah blah blah") every time the code was upgraded.. This was a major pain in the butt, so I only upgraded the code when some new groundbreaking thing came out.. Now Brad and the LJ crew (bless their hearts) have put all of the dynamic content into one file.. This means that I can upgrade the code without having to have charity and eris and I retype 30+ *.bml pages.... So, be a pal and post this in your own personal journal so the word gets out.. Im not abandoning DJ, and just because you dont see me posting in this doesnt mean that I have stopped working on DJ.. I'm just cramming for the state boards.. :) heh.. direct comments to corvus@vadept.com Thanx everyone for your patience and understanding -Frank |

Moods
To keep updated on the
status of mood themes please join the community I will keep adding the new ones that are in my inbox as much and as often as I can. If you do not see your icon/theme up yet it is soon on its way. I am working on it. If you do not see it in the near future it is because you either did not send a complete set as per what your initial map specified, or it is violating someones copyright and we can not put them up.

The theme tinykao has been removed. If you were using them use another mood theme set. The person that originally mapped them out and gave LiveJournal and DeadJournal permission to use them did not own the copyright to these images. The owner of the copyright for those images contacted LiveJournal and they wanted them removed. So, I have removed them from DeadJournal as well as not to get in to any hassles with having their images up. This is why I make you all provide me with the statement that you own and created said images. This way the person that sends them in is responsible for any possible legal action for lifting copyright images. We operate on good faith and with your statement that you are the author/artist of your mood themes, you are ultimately responsible for any repercussions that might arise if you do not draw them yourself and/or have permission from the original author of those images. The author of those images has not contacted DeadJournal but LiveJournal has. I have taken it upon myself to remove them from our site as to respect the copyright holder of said images. Please remember that nobody likes their images stolen, so do not just go out on the web and lift images. Please remember as well that if you send in a set of mood icons you are claiming them to be yours and if any legal action takes place you will be ultimately responsible. Some people take copyright very seriously and will sue you for every penny you have to your name. This might be a good lesson to let you all know that if I find out that any of the images you have sent in for mood themes are ones that you did not draw or do not have permission to distribute, I will help the copyright owner by directing them to you that sent in the particular theme set. If I have reasonable proof that you did not draw any images or that they are not royalty free I will NOT map them out and put them on the server. For me to do so would open us up to tons of legal hassles and would be a terrible waste of my time and resources. If your e-mail with the zip file of your theme you want put up does not contain a statement from you that you own the copyright or permissions to put them up on the server I will not map them out and put them on DeadJournal. I will also not put them up for people that do not have a validated account. So, if you are not validated you are out of luck as far as submitting any mood icons. So, if anyone happens to know of or have proof that any themes that anyone has sent in or created belong to someone else, or that they are not royalty free please let me know so that I can remove them from the server. Thank You, Charity. |

If you are having problems with a password prompt that comes up when viewing your journal, Please go to the following FAQ and read how to stop this from happening. http://www.deadjournal.com/support/faqb We have recently had a lot of e-mails and support tickets opened due to this. We are working on another solution. If you want to take care of the issue now and not have that pop up password prompt then please read the above FAQ to take care of the problem right away. Do not put your username or password in to the password prompt. Just close it and read the FAQ on how to get rid of it. Thank You Charity |

I thought this should go here as well. This post is per Be sure to cut and paste the following information in to your own journal and pass the word on that DJ will be down for a few days or so. Here is the post to cut and paste: Reminder that DJ will be taken down next week (starting probably 12/15/01) for code and machine upgrades.. Nothing will be lost.. Only bummer is that you wont be able to post to your journals.. |

| I just mapped out the bml maps for 7 new mood themes that were sent in to me last night. They were sent to me in the correct way that I have posted on how to do it before. This allowed me to add the code I needed to each theme gif so that it could go up on the server in a timely manner. I also put them on the server and am now waiting for them to push before I can make them public. Once they push on the servers then there will be 7 new mood themes for all DJ users. So, keep tuned in for further developments on the mood theme front. | ||||||

if you have not already seen at /create.bml we're as of now not accepting any new accounts what this means is anything look wise about the site is being pushed a tiny bit to the side while i(we) try to figure out how to generate revenue to keep us going. we're not as bad off as livejournal, but then again we're actually working for $0.00 and we can't just beg for more members. the advantage of being the red-headed step-child to livejournal is that hopefully we can learn from them and be able to anticipate problems before it slows us down to the point of only be able to access the site a couple times a week. which in this case meant turning off new accounts till we can figure out what the fuck we're going to do if we keep growing this fast to let you know what we're tossing about right now: the idea is to make our own version of free and paid, in which the only limitations the free accounts will have is 10 pictures instead of 15, and there will be banner ads, other than this the functionality of your account will not be limited. you will still have access to all the existing styles, to create your own styles, text messaging, etc. be advised that this is NOT OFFICAL, the terms of this may change many times before/if it's actually implemented. but our intent is to never make you feel like you HAVE to pay to use our service but the bottom line is DeadJournal needs money, if you want to donate huge amounts of money that's damn cool with us, but that's not what i'm aiming at here we'd really prefer to find a way to be self-sufficient because, frankly (excuse the pun what we're looking for is: * viable banner add solution (no popups), that has a pretty good pay off, per view is preferred, clickthrough would be considered (a lot nicer to beg you to click on things than to send money) * anything we can do or sell that will generate revenue OTHER than paid accounts things and lastly, please post this everywhere, link to it, whathaveyou it's been difficult to make sure all members are aware of what's going on |

Made some Skull icons really quick for Dead Journal. There will be better detailed sets in the future that will be more fitting with Dead Journal. I just mapped these out and made them public for anyone to use if you choose to. There are several others that are up to the challenge of making themes. I know we will all be looking forward to when these are available. If you want to use them you can go to the modify page and change to them. |

Put up 4 more sets of mood icons today. I am still waiting for permissions from a few others to add their themes to the server. It has about reached the point that there will not be too many more themes that were on LJ to add here. Yeah, sure they keep adding more new themes to the open source but it is time that we start to build our own sets that go with the dead journal spirit. We need skulls, gargoyles, witches, bitches, etc..... I have a few themes I have already started that are not any of the above that I will finish and probably add them. Then it is time to get busy and start to draw some themes for pissed off people. Here is a breakdown of the themes I added today.
You may go to the modify page and change to any of them if you wish. |

Over the past couple of days I have been mapping out and installing mood themes
on to the server for public use. Yesterday I spent 12 hours glued in front of
the computer and another 6 hours this morning. I have to build fresh maps for
the moods that were on live journal so it takes a little time to do them. I
am working as fast as time permits me to dedicate to having all of the mood
themes working on the server. Here is a summery of the past 2 days with all
the moods. I had to get permissions (out of courtesy) of some of the other authors
of the art work. These new ones are in addition to the others I mapped out before
we got the icons to show dynamically on the server. In the future if you would
like to see updates on what is going on the server as they are worked on you
may put ( Read more... ) |
